Formation of consortia, the first step

Public Funding for R&D&I

This is why more and more large companies in our country are incorporating structures dedicated to fostering collaborative innovation, while at the same time, public budgetary efforts to promote and encourage this type of innovation are increasing.
Public bodies such as the Center for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI), the State Research Agency (AEI), the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA), or the Ministry of Science and Innovation (MICINN) provide aid in the form of grants and/or preferential loans for investment in consortium-based R&D&I projects applied to various productive sectors. These grants directly contribute to increasing business investment in R&D&I activities, thus maximizing their impact.
At the European level, the innovation-promotion instruments integrated into the Framework Program for R&D, such as Horizon Europe, have encouraged this type of cross-border collaboration, incentivizing the creation of consortia to address society’s major challenges. Also of particular relevance is the Next Generation EU instrument, created to address the economic and social consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the corresponding National Recovery and Resilience Plan, which channels these European funds in our country to tackle common and priority challenges such as the green transition or digital transformation.
