This was our experience at IFFA 2025, the leading European event for meat and alternative protein technology
IFFA 2025, the leading European trade fair for the meat and alternative protein sector, brought together over 1,000 exhibitors and 63,117 visitors from 144 countries in Frankfurt. Under the motto “Rethinking Meat and Proteins,” the event showcased how the industry is addressing current challenges through innovative solutions across the entire value chain—from processing to ingredients and packaging. Artificial intelligence, automation, and digitalization took center stage, highlighting an ongoing technological transformation aimed at greater efficiency, sustainability, and profitability.
The “New Proteins Area” spotlighted the latest innovations in meat alternatives, such as 3D printing, plant-based proteins, mycoproteins, and precision fermentation. The fair also offered activities including live cooking, panels on cultivated meat, and discussions on opportunities for startups.
More than 1,000 exhibitors took part in IFFA 2025, the main European event for professionals in the meat and alternative protein sectors—an event we at artica+i couldn’t miss.
In a complex global economic context, the industry clearly demonstrated its capacity for innovation and competitiveness. This was also reflected in the attendance figures: a total of 63,117 professional visitors from 144 countries attended the leading international fair in Frankfurt, with 74% coming from abroad.
Under the theme “Rethinking Meat and Proteins,” companies and industry professionals presented solutions covering the entire value chain: from processing and packaging to innovative ingredients and commercial trends—highlighting the rapid evolution the industry is undergoing.
Additionally, IFFA Factory was held as part of the fair, showcasing how engineering, research, and startups are addressing labor shortages through technologies that simplify processes and reduce workloads.
Smart Technology for a Transforming Industry
The global meat and protein industry used IFFA as a platform to discover the latest innovations in automation, artificial intelligence (AI), and robotics. AI- and data-driven process intelligence is emerging as the future, with many exhibitors showcasing groundbreaking solutions in this area. Innovative ingredients, new trends in artisanal meat processing, and products made with alternative proteins were also featured.
Held from May 3 to 8 in Frankfurt, the fair attracted mainly professionals involved in protein processing, but also representatives from food retail, packaging, butchery, and spice industries.
The focus was on AI applications, automation, and digital technologies for analyzing production data—aimed at achieving greater transparency, sustainability, and profitability.
Professionals in the meat sector found practical solutions at IFFA for their businesses: digital systems, modern business structures, and future-oriented packaging technologies. Networking with peers, competitions, and award ceremonies further enriched the experience.
Alternative Proteins: A Growing Sector
Alternative proteins gained prominence with the introduction of the “New Proteins Area,” presented for the first time at the fair. This space became a central hub for showcasing technological innovations, ingredients, and research related to all kinds of meat alternatives.
Advances in 3D printing and innovative recipes based on new plant sources were presented, along with proteins obtained through fermentation. Innovations in flavor, texture, and nutritional value drew great interest, as did products based on plant proteins, mycoproteins (fungi), and precision fermentation—key topics of discussion.
The IFFA activity program provided both practical and professional inspiration. IFFA Kitchen combined live cooking, tastings, and specialized presentations. Panels explored topics such as cultivated meat, bio-intelligence in mechanical engineering, customized plant proteins, and opportunities for startups in the alternative sector.
Our Experience at IFFA 2025
Our time at IFFA 2025 was a key opportunity to stay updated on the latest innovations in the meat industry and the dynamic world of alternative proteins.
At artica+i, we started by offering executive engineering services, but our journey has taken us much further. Over time, thanks to our experience in increasingly complex projects and the incorporation of highly qualified professionals, we have evolved into a model of comprehensive and specialized technical support. Today, we work on a wide variety of studies and projects, applying new technologies and incorporating automation solutions that help our clients improve their efficiency and competitiveness in an increasingly demanding environment.
Our professionals in the Project Studies and Definition Area develop customized strategic plans to support our clients in their transformation and continuous improvement processes. To achieve this, it is essential to stay up to date with the state of the art in technology and innovation. In this sense, IFFA is a must-attend event for the sector.
During our visit, we had the opportunity to learn firsthand about the latest developments in machinery for processing meat products: cooking, freezing, pasteurization, slicing, packaging, and much more. We also explored emerging trends in the plant-based alternative protein space—a market that continues to grow strongly.
IFFA 2025 has been not only a source of inspiration but also a boost to keep innovating and growing alongside those who place their trust in us.
