Agri-food events May and June 2023

In May and June, the agri-food sector will be present at some of the most important events on the international scene. The wine sector is the focus of two particularly important events, FENAVIN and the OIV International Congress.
Meanwhile, the technology sector applied to the food industry takes centre stage with F4F, as well as different fairs in the fruit and vegetable, food and gastronomy sectors.

MACFRUT 2023

Macfrut is a leading trade fair for professionals operating in the fruit and vegetable sector in Italy and Europe. It is an event that represents the entire fruit and vegetable supply chain, combining specialised events and dynamic areas dedicated to innovation with a trade exhibition.

With two months to go, the next edition of Macfrut is presenting figures very close to those of the pre-pandemic period: an increase of 25% in exhibition space and 50% more international exhibitors compared to the last edition.

The new exhibition facilities, the growing number of Italian and foreign companies taking part, the dynamic areas and a wide range of initiatives aimed at promoting innovation and internationalisation are the features that make it a highly important event.

In fact, Macfrut will expand for the first time in its history and will include the pavilions in the west wing of the Rimini Exhibition Centre to accommodate the growing number of exhibitors. It will also host more thematic areas, including the pre-harvest area, with two pavilions dedicated to the latest innovations in the nursery sector (Plant Nursery and Varietal Innovation Exhibition), an event dedicated to blueberries (International Blueberry Days), a dynamic area dedicated to saving water (Acqua Campus), as well as thematic exhibitions on spices and medicinal herbs (Spices & Herbs Global Expo) and biosolutions (Biosolutions International Event).

FENAVIN, National Wine Fair

Fenavin is the leading trade fair for Spanish wine. This monographic meeting aims to promote the national and international wine sector, with the clear objective of favouring business with pragmatic and efficient working systems that help to ensure that there is a wide-ranging meeting between supply and demand.

Between 9 and 11 May, and accompanied by a hundred or so activities, this important wine sector fair will be held in the 40,000 square metres of the new exhibition space at the IFEDI (Institución Ferial Diputación de Ciudad Real).

In addition, the parallel programme of activities will include interesting presentations on topics such as: technological innovation and R&D&I capabilities, the use of waste, wine and health, export support tools, branding and packaging, digitalisation and communication.

FOOD 4 FUTURE, Bilbao Foodtech World Summit

F4F – Expo Foodtech is the global technology event for the food industry to be held in Bilbao (Spain) from 16 to 18 May. It is the meeting point for professionals from the food industry and its value chain to learn about the latest developments in technology, robotics and automation, data technology and processing techniques in the food sector.

Food 4 Future aims to consolidate its position as the platform for discovering the latest innovations and trends that are driving the transformation of the food industry: 4.0 technologies, concern for healthy eating, sustainable and efficient food production, and the fight against climate change.

In addition, F4F will host a new edition of the FoodTech Startup Forum 2023, which will bring together more than 2,000 new startups to present their projects, solutions and business models that will revolutionise the food and beverage industry.

The third edition of the FoodTech Startup Forum consolidates Spain as FoodTech Nation and seeks to develop innovation ecosystems around the food value chain. For three days and in a space of more than 4,000 square metres, startups from all over the world will showcase technological innovations to address the challenges of safety, traceability, sustainability and efficiency in the value chain.

44th Congress of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV)

The Spanish city of Jerez (Cadiz) will host the 44th edition of the Congress of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), which will bring together different members of the scientific community to present abstracts on research, themes and topics that can be discussed in the congress proceedings. The event will look at the many unknowns that exist in 2023 in terms of markets and inflationary pressures that are affecting food products, without exempting the world of wine from this problem.

Under the slogan ‘Winegrowing and information technologies’, it will bring together more than 800 wine sector specialists from 45 countries, which will be inaugurated this year with two keynote speeches: ‘The wine sector facing the challenge of digital transformation’ and ‘Technology and data in the wine sector: a story of innovation in the United Kingdom in cross-border collaboration’. In addition to these, there are 244 others selected by the organisation’s scientific committee for this event.

SALIMAT ABANCA 2023, Atlantic Food Exhibition

The Atlantic Food Show, Salimat Abanca, will hold its 26th edition between 8 and 11 June, together with the Abanca Semana Verde de Galicia International Fair, an event that has been committed, for over 40 years, to being a faithful reflection of the Galician land and the impressive evolution that the entire value chain of the primary sector has undergone, and in which food, through SALIMAT, has always been its main exponent.

Salimat Abanca has thus become an essential forum for the food and gastronomy sector, which will bring together, for yet another year, professionals from the sector with the aim of achieving effective interaction between supply and demand.

A unique event, in which multiple sectorial organisations, promotion entities, small producers, artisans, industry and large-scale distribution will come together to collaborate and do business, boost their growth and results, reinforce their positioning and increase their visibility.

VINIS TERRAE, Galician quality wine and spirits fair

The 10th edition of the Salón del Vino y Licores Gallegos de Calidad will be held at the fairgrounds on 5 and 6 June, consolidated as the only exclusively professional show dedicated to quality local wines. The aim of this event is to position the wineries and producers of spirits and liqueurs belonging to the different designations of origin of Galicia in the Spanish and international markets.

Among the new features of this event in 2023 is the launch of the first “Get to know our wines” competition, a blind tasting by teams aimed exclusively at professionals from the wine sector. The teams will be made up of a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 wine professionals: sommeliers, oenologists, winemakers, distributors, waiters, etc., who will test their senses and their knowledge of Galician wines.

This blind tasting by teams will take place on the morning of Monday 5 June. The registration period for this competition, which will distribute 1,5000 euros in prizes, is already open and those interested can register through the event’s website until 1 June (at 12.00 noon peninsular time).
