The food and beverage sector met in Barcelona from 4 to 7 April at the Alimentaria and Hostelco 2022 trade fairs, in addition to Barcelona Wine Week as the meeting point for the national wine sector.
In addition, the Food and Beverage Industry Innovation has played a key role through the celebration of a new edition of ALIBER, which has had our support as a sponsor of the event.

Coinciding with Alimentaria 2022, the Federation of Food and Drink Industries (FIAB) and the Food for Life-Spain Technology Platform held a new edition of ALIBER.

This event, under the slogan “What no one sees where everyone is looking”, took place in The Alimentaria HUB space with a series of presentations and international conferences on the challenges and trends in R&D&I in the food and beverage sector, bringing together the sector’s leading professionals and benchmarks in innovation to address the latest trends in business models, entrepreneurship, new technologies and innovations in healthy eating, circular economy and digitalization of the food and beverage industry.

The event kicked off on 4 April with the “Innovation Meetings” to discuss digital transformation, energy efficiency, precision nutrition and the start-up environment, among other aspects. In addition, the programme was complemented by a series of conferences on the European innovation projects FeedTheMind and EntreCompFood, the presentation of innovation collaboration programmes with Latin American countries such as Mexico, Chile and Peru, promoted by the CDTI.

All of this, with top level professionals such as Isabel Bombal, General Director of Rural Development, Innovation and Agri-Food Training (MAPA), Tomás Pascual Gómez-Cuétara, President of FIAB, Miguel Ángel Cubero, General Director of Ingredalia, Clemente Mara, Deputy General Director of Competitiveness of the Agri-Food Chain (MAPA) or Anna Corabús i Flores, Head of Business Development of the Food Industry at IRTA, among others.

ALIBER has counted on our support as sponsors, together with Grupo Carinsa and Blendhub. Also, with the collaboration of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA), Alimentos de España and the Ministry of Science and Innovation.

Alimentaria 2022: Internationalization and Innovation

Between 4 and 7 April, the leading shows in the food and beverage sector were held simultaneously: Alimentaria and Hostelco (International Restaurant, Hotel and Catering Equipment and Machinery Show), an essential event not to be missed. Thanks to the combined offer of both shows, this event brought together international professionals from both distribution and the Horeca channel to present the most complete and transversal proposal for the entire value chain of the catering and gastronomy industry with great synergies in supply and demand.

In this way, strategic sectors for our country such as meat, dairy, foodservice products, snacks and sweets and canned food were represented by Alimentaria. But, in turn, complemented with the latest innovations in equipment, machinery and accessories for the hotel and catering, coffee, pastry, bakery, pizza and ice cream industries, through Hostelco.

This 2022 edition, Alimentaria and Hostelco have focused especially on the reactivation and internationalization of the industry. The event was attended by 400 international exhibitors from 52 countries. In addition, as a new feature for 2022, the Show inaugurated the new “International Pavilions” space, where most of Alimentaria’s international offering was grouped together.

With the aim of continuing to intensify the internationalization of Spanish companies and opening up new business opportunities abroad, Alimentaria and Hostelco have invited 1,400 buyers from 68 countries. The Hosted Buyers programme, organized in collaboration with ICEX, facilitated commercial contact between exhibitors and this group of buyers.

Another major pillar of Alimentaria 2022 was Innovation, which, together with gastronomy and management linked to sustainability and social responsibility, defined a large part of the parallel programme of activities at both shows.

At Alimentaria, The Alimentaria Hub was the meeting point for trends and the future of food and beverages, where more than 200 experts gave talks and fast talks on such important topics as sustainability, innovation, digitalization and health.

Barcelona Wine Week

Due to the pandemic situation marked by the sixth wave of Covid-19 that we were experiencing in our country in February, the management of Barcelona Wine Week (BWW) decided to postpone the fair to this April, making it coincide with Alimentaria and Hostelco. Thus, between 4 and 6 April, the wine sector met at the second edition of BWW.

In the same way as in Alimentaria, we were present at this wine sector event through our representation at the stand of the Wine Technology Platform, whose technical secretariat we manage. In this way, we were able to accompany regular customers such as Familia Torres, Bodega Cuatro Rayas and Alma Carraovejas.

With more than 650 exhibiting companies, Barcelona Wine Week (BWW) presented around 800 new references during the three days of the show. In addition, the event has generated great business opportunities, with the visit of more than 18,000 professionals.
