What’s new in May 2022

What’s new in May 2022

May is coming to an end. A month in which we have celebrated important dates and milestones such as World Creativity and Innovation Day and the launch of the DTWINE R&D&I project to apply and consolidate digital twin technology in the wine sector, for which we are the technical office.
It was also a key month for sectors such as fruit, horticulture, meat, wine and food technology, which took part in major international events and trade fairs.

World Creativity and Innovation Day

World Creativity and Innovation Day was celebrated on 21 April in order to raise awareness of the importance and fundamental role played by these concepts in human development. This date was marked on the calendar by the United Nations to promote innovation as an essential tool for the economic growth of nations and the generation of employment.

Since our beginnings, at artica+i we have been committed to a solid team and to a balance between experience and innovation in ideas and methods. This has allowed us to grow, year after year, to consolidate our position as one of the benchmark companies in Engineering and Innovation Consultancy specialising in the agri-food sector.

Our professional team is positioned at the epicentre of our company as we consider it to be our main asset, relying on our own talent as the main means of internal innovation. In this way, the staff of professionals that make up both the Engineering and Innovation Consultancy areas is made up of highly qualified, creative and highly innovative profiles. Thus, the combination of experience and creative methodology has become our greatest differential value.

Agri-Food Events in May 2022

Agri-food sectors such as fruit, horticulture, meat, wine and food technology will be present during the month of May 2022 at some of the main events and fairs, both nationally and internationally.

  • MACFRUT: this is a leading trade fair for professionals operating in the fruit and vegetable sector in Italy and Europe. This 39th edition, held from 4 to 6 May in Rimini (Italy), was notable for its new exhibition areas, the growing number of Italian and foreign companies taking part and a wide range of initiatives aimed at promoting innovation and internationalisation of the sector.
  • FENAVIN: with 1,946 wineries from all over Spain, some 18,000 buyers and more than 7,000 business meetings, FENAVIN is the benchmark trade fair for Spanish wine. The event took place between 10 and 12 May in Ciudad Real and was inaugurated by King Felipe VI.
  • IFFA 2022: held between 14 and 19 May in Frankfurt (Germany), IFFA 2022 brought together all the players in the international meat industry. In addition, during this edition and with the aim of highlighting the rapid growth of meat alternatives and their manufacturing processes, the fair focused on the presentation of alternative protein technologies.
  • FOOD 4 FUTURE: technology, robotics, automation, data technology and processing techniques applied to the agri-food sector all came together at Food 4 Future. An event that took place between 17 and 19 May in Bilbao to showcase the latest innovations and trends that are driving the transformation of the food industry.
  • GIENOL 2022: Murcia hosted the 15th edition of the National Oenological Research Congress (GIENOL), which took place between 23 and 26 May 2022. The scientific-technical production of the wine sector came together to share scientific advances and innovations with researchers from different oenological regions, both from Spain and other countries, and to encourage the interest of young researchers so that they can continue to develop and disseminate the culture of wine.
  • VINOBLE: the 11th edition of the International Exhibition of Noble Wines was held in Jerez on 29, 30 and 31 May 2022. It is the most important exhibition in the world dedicated exclusively to fortified wines, liqueur wines and special sweet wines. With more than 40 exhibitors, VINOBLE had a strong international presence, offering a unique journey through the most special noble wines from countries such as France, Sweden, Georgia, United States, Italy, Canada, Greece, Portugal and, of course, Spain.

DTWINE develops digital cufflinks for the wine sector

The DTWINE R&D&I project, which aims to apply and consolidate the technology of digital twins in the wine sector, has started with our Innovation Consultancy team as the project’s technical office, supporting the technical monitoring of this initiative and developing a communication strategy to publicise the project and disseminate its results.

Specifically, the project aims to develop a computer system to simulate and predict the wine fermentation process. In addition, combined with sensors and computational optimisation methods, it will facilitate the work of oenologists in making decisions in the daily operation of wineries.

Under the title ‘Digital twins to optimise energy efficiency and product quality in wineries’, the project is supported by our Innovation Consultancy team as the project’s technical office, providing support in the monitoring and technical, administrative and economic justification tasks. In addition, the consortium that makes up DTWINE, led by the Institute of Agrochemistry and Food Technology (IATA-CSIC), has entrusted our experts in Innovation Communication to develop a communication strategy to maximise the impact of the project’s progress and results.

DTWINE has a budget of €1,001,848 and is financed by the State Research Agency (AEI), part of the Ministry of Science and Innovation, with Next Generation EU funds within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. The work is expected to be carried out over a period of 36 months, from October 2021 to September 2024.

Food 4 Future 2022, a showcase for the foodtech industry

On 18 May, our sales director, Rafael Suárez, travelled to Bilbao to attend the second edition of Food 4 Future-Expo Foodtech and witness the latest innovations and technological solutions that are transforming the food and beverage industry.

Food 4 Future has thus consolidated its position as the international benchmark technology forum for the food and beverage industry, leading innovation in the sector in all its segments: meat, beverages, fisheries, dairy, fruit and vegetable, cereals, preserves and oil. The figures speak for themselves: a total of 7,217 visitors from more than 25 countries, more than 250 exhibitor companies and an impact of more than 14 million euros for the city of Bilbao.

During his visit to the fair, our colleague Rafael Suárez had the opportunity to attend the conferencesMaking Agriculture Sustainable and Profitable” and “Focusing on Plant-Based Products (II)“. In addition, he was able to discuss with some of our clients and regular collaborators, new calls for aid for innovation in the agri-food sector. Such is the case of the aid for the agri-food PERTE pending publication, the topics of the Science and Innovation Missions Programme of the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI) for the 2022 call or some new lines of funding that ENISA has in its portfolio and which are pending approval by the Council of Ministers.
