CORK2WINE

Description

CORK2WINE is an R + D + i project that aims to apply a new comprehensive approach to cork research to address the advancement and overcoming of current technological challenges in the national cork sector. From the stages of primary production in the forestry field to the subsequent manufacture of wine stoppers, this initiative also studies the profitable and optimal use of by-products and waste. In short, CORK2WINE aims to guarantee the competitiveness, sustainability, international positioning and future viability of the sector.

Objective: general objective to apply a new comprehensive approach to cork research, in order to generate knowledge that allows the advancement and overcoming of the current technological challenges of the national cork sector, from the stages of primary production in the forestry field until its subsequent processing for its preparation and subsequent manufacture of wine stoppers, as well as the optimal and profitable use of its by-products and waste, thus guaranteeing the competitiveness of the sector, its sustainability, international positioning and future viability.

It should be noted that CORK2WINE will incorporate almost 100 professionals from the cork and wine sector into a multidisciplinary work team, giving rise to 71 direct jobs (with at least 18 intermediate, higher or PhD graduates) and 21 indirect ones. It also plans to mobilize a global induced investment that will exceed 2,200,000 euros in the period 2024-2027.

Within the framework of the CIEN Strategic Program, CORK2WINE has a budget of 4,948,217 euros, financed by the Center for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI), and in part, with ERDF funds from the European Union. The execution works will take place between July 2019 and June 2023.
