April 2022 news

April has been a month full of important events for the Spanish agri-food sector. We celebrated Alimentaria 2022, Barcelona Wine Week and the 35th edition of Salón Gourmets.

In addition, on 21 April we celebrated World Creativity and Innovation Day, highlighting the innovative talent of the professionals working at artica+i.

ALIBER Conference sponsored by artica+i

Coinciding with Alimentaria 2022, the Federation of Food and Drink Industries (FIAB) and the Food for Life-Spain Technology Platform held ALIBER, an event which, under the slogan “What no one sees where everyone is looking”, addressed the main challenges and trends in R&D&I in the Food and Drink sector.

The event gathered top level professionals such as Isabel Bombal, general director of Rural Development, Innovation and Agroalimentary Training (MAPA), Tomás Pascual Gómez-Cuétara, president of FIAB, Miguel Ángel Cubero, general director of Ingredalia or Clemente Mara, deputy director general of Competitiveness of the Agri-Food Chain (MAPA), in a series of conferences and presentations that dealt with topics of interest such as the latest trends in business models, entrepreneurship, new technologies and innovations in healthy eating, circular economy and digitalisation of the Food and Beverage Industry.

Alimentaria, Hostelco and Barcelona Wine Week

The agri-food industry met in Barcelona from 4 to 7 April at three events of international interest that we could not miss: Alimentaria, Hostelco and Barcelona Wine Week.

Thanks to the simultaneity of Alimentaria and Hostelco (International Restaurant, Hotel and Catering Equipment and Machinery Show), the meeting brought together international professionals, both from distribution and the Horeca channel, to present the most complete and transversal proposal of the entire value chain of the restaurant and gastronomy industry with great synergies in supply and demand.

Focusing on the economic recovery and internationalisation of the industry, both shows were attended by 400 international exhibiting firms from 52 countries. In addition, Innovation was another of Alimentaria’s main pillars which, together with gastronomy and management linked to sustainability and social responsibility, defined a large part of the parallel programme of activities at both shows.

The wine sector also came together in Barcelona during the same week for the second edition of Barcelona Wine Week (BWW). In the same way as in Alimentaria, we were present at this wine industry event through our representation at the stand of the Wine Technology Platform, whose technical secretariat we managed.

With more than 650 exhibiting companies, Barcelona Wine Week (BWW) presented around 800 new references and generated great business opportunities, with the visit of more than 18,000 professionals.

World Creativity and Innovation Day

Two decades ago, the United Nations designated 21 April as World Creativity and Innovation Day with the aim of promoting innovation as an essential tool for the economic growth of nations and the generation of employment. In addition, in 2006, the celebration of this day was extended to a whole week, from 15 to 21 April, to leave more space for reflection and generation of new ideas.

Since our beginnings, at artica+i we have been committed to a solid team and to a balance between experience and innovation in ideas and methods. This has allowed us to grow year after year, consolidating our position as one of the benchmark companies in Engineering and Innovation Consultancy specialising in the agri-food sector.

Both our Engineering and Innovation Consultancy departments are made up of a team of professionals who, in addition to having extensive experience and technical knowledge, also have creative and highly innovative profiles.

Our professional team is positioned at the epicentre of our company, as we consider it to be our main asset, relying on our own talent as the main means of internal innovation.

Salón Gourmets 2022

From 25 to 28 April, IFEMA Madrid hosted the 35th edition of the Salón Gourmets, the most important Quality Food and Beverages fair in Europe. With more than 1,600 exhibitors and 40,000 products on display, the show has already become an important event for professionals in the food sector, but also for amateurs who want to see the best national and international gastronomic products first hand.

More than 70,000 visitors were also able to enjoy the more than 800 activities that made up the interesting programme of parallel activities offered by the 35th edition of the Salón Gourmets: championships, renowned awards, themed and sensory areas, round tables and all kinds of tastings and live cooking shows.

During the event, our client, González-Byass, presented the “Ángel de Viñas” initiative that it has created in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Madrid to rescue, preserve, care for and maintain those old vineyards that are on the verge of extinction in Spain. In addition, the winery’s team showed the essence of this initiative, offering a tasting of wines from the first vineyards rescued in Madrigal de las Altas Torres (D.O. Rueda) and Espiells (Alto Penedés), which was attended by our Business Development Director, Fernando Boned.

Innovation was a common denominator in many of the activities offered by the Salón Gourmets, in addition to setting aside the “Innovation Area” space to exhibit more than 250 innovative products, which were also the subject of the Salón Gourmets Awards in the categories of “Innovation”, “Presentation”, “Versatility” and “Most nutritionally complete organic product”.
