We participate in the PTV 2023 Annual Meeting as the technical secretariat of this association

On 8 and 9 May, the wine sector met to celebrate the 2023 Annual Meeting of the Wine Technology Platform (PTV), whose technical secretariat we have been managing through the artica+i platform and cluster management service since its inception in 2011. Through this area, we provide support for the promotion, creation, strategic direction and operational management of organisations that, like the PTV, have a clear innovation-oriented activity. Our work with them is primarily aimed at ensuring their technical, economic and commercial viability in a sustainable manner.

PTV Annual Meeting

Familia Torres opened the doors of its winery in Priorat to welcome and kick off the meeting with a visit and technical tasting by the winemaker, Jordi Foraster. The attendees then travelled to Falset Castle, where they were able to enjoy another tasting led by Salustià Álvarez, president of the DOQ Priorat, and Pilar Just and Joan Asens, representing the DO Montsant.

On 9 May, the Rovira i Virgili University hosted the 11th General Assembly of Members of the Wine Technology Platform, which was opened by the director of INCAVI (Institut Català de la Vinya i el Vi), Alba Balcells.

During the Assembly, the members of the PTV unanimously approved the financial closing of the year 2022 and gave the green light to the work plan and budget for 2023, which was presented by our colleague and manager of the Association, Mario de la Fuente.

The XI General Assembly of Members also approved the composition of the new Board of Directors with Carlos Moro, president of Bodegas Familiares Matarromera, as president of the association and Rosana Lisa, director of R&D&I of Ramón Bilbao, as vice-president.

Carlos Moro took office at the close of the 2023 Annual Meeting as the new president of the Wine Technology Platform. During his speech, he first expressed his gratitude to all the members of the association and the board of directors, adding that he faces this position with “responsibility and enthusiasm” as “the PTV represents one of the bastions of wine R&D&I in Spain”.

In addition, a partial renewal of the Technical Commission was approved, incorporating a new area of Digitalisation, coordinated by Eva Navascués, R&D&I director at Alma Carraovejas, Juan Manuel Corchado, president of AIR Institute, and David Martínez, director of Digital Transformation at AINIA.

Technical guest speakers

To round off the General Assembly of Members, attendees attended the keynote speech “How can we reduce the use of sulphur dioxide without compromising the quality of the wine“, by Fernando Zamora, Professor of Oenological Technology at the Rovira i Virgili University.

In addition, Xavier Ybargüengoitia, former CEO of Estates & Wines (LVMH), presented his book Creación de valor en la industria vitivinícola. During his speech, he explained that value creation is based on three pillars: strategic vision, product and operational excellence and brand creation.

He added that “creating value is much more than just growth. It is about creating a stable and profitable company, and this is only possible by balancing the interests of shareholders, employees, suppliers, customers and consumers”.

Our experience in platform and cluster management

In artica+i, from our Innovation Consultancy department, we integrate the management service of technological platforms and clusters by means of support in their promotion, creation, strategic direction and operational management.

We do not only present theoretical ideas, but we are committed to long-term results through continuous management, with secretarial and technical office functions, forming part of the organisational structure of the same, always in coordination and under the guidelines of their governing bodies created for this purpose.

As a result of our more than 25 years of experience in the field of wine innovation, in 2011, the board of directors of the Wine Technology Platform placed its trust in our team to manage what is now the benchmark association for wine R&D&I in our country.

Thus, we act as support in the economic and administrative management of the PTV, formulating the budgets and strategic work plans of the association, always hand in hand with its board of directors. Likewise, our team, led by Mario de la Fuente, oversees the technical management of the Platform, promoting and leading strategic R&D&I projects for the sector.

The Wine Technology Platform, a success story

In 2011, for the first time, the wine business sector and the scientific-technical agents of this industry joined forces to create the Wine Technology Platform. An entity that, two years later, would be constituted as an association, and which was born thanks to the commitment of the wine sector as a whole to R&D&I.

From artica+i we have been linked to the PTV since its birth, assuming the management of its technical secretariat and taking charge of the design and implementation of its strategic innovation plan, as well as boosting sectorial R&D&I projects and monitoring the needs of the associates or the economic management of the entity.

More than a decade later, we can see with satisfaction how the PTV has grown and consolidated its position as a benchmark for R&D&I in the wine sector thanks to the combined efforts and daily work of the technical secretariat, the board of directors and, of course, the work of all the member organisations, which now number more than 200.
