DTWINE Talks – Chapter 2. Interview with Eva Balsa, IIM-CSIC, on the development of the computational core of the digital twin

Eva Balsa, leading the Biosystems in Bioprocess Engineering Group at the Institute of Marine Research (IIM-CSIC), , tells us in this interview about her role in the DTWINE project, explaining what are and how the digital twins work and giving her vision on how this initiative can bring value to society.

Mathematical models and optimization and control strategies to improve processes and guarantee results

During the interview, Eva highlighted that the combination of sensor data with mathematical models will allow optimizing the process and guaranteeing specific results, such as energy consumption or aromatic production.

In addition, the integration of the digital twin with a real-time monitoring system will make it possible to know how the process is working at all times and optimize it to achieve the objectives desired by the winery. “The digital twin will be a decision support tool,” Eva pointed out, referring to the application of this novel technology to the wine field.
