Life 2021 call for proposals
The European Climate, Environment and Infrastructure Executive Agency (CINEA) has published the Life 2021 Call for Proposals, the only R&D&I funding programme dedicated exclusively to financing initiatives with environmental and climate objectives.
Life 2021 has a total budget of 5.4 billion euros, a figure that represents an increase of 60% compared to the previous call. In addition, of this total, the EC has earmarked ¤1 billion for the new “Transition to clean energy” line.
More than 10 years of experience in the promotion, dynamisation and management of international R&D&I projects, endorse artica+i’s international project management team as a good ally in attracting European funds such as those from the Life 2021.
WHAT’S NEW?
- New portal: applications will be submitted through the “Funding & Tenders Opportunities” portal instead of eProposal.
- One single stage in 2021: the submission of proposals from the Environment area (Nature and Biodiversity Sub-programme and Circular Economy and Quality of Life Sub-programme) will be carried out in one single stage.
- The 2% rule that previously applied to staff costs will disappear.
- Support for local initiatives: all projects will be allowed to financially support local initiatives that can contribute to the objective of the project. This will take the form of grants which the beneficiary may award (within certain limits) to third parties responsible for such initiatives.
PROJECTS AND KEY DATES
The following is a summary of the types of projects eligible for funding under this assistance, as well as some of their key dates:
- Standard Action Projects (SAPs), which are equivalent to the above “traditional projects” and focus on the following specific objectives:
- Nature and Biodiversity Sub-programme (30/11/2021).
- Circular Economy and Quality of Life Sub-programme (30/11/2021)
- Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Sub-programme (30/11/2021)
- Clean Energy Transition Sub-programme (12 January 2022)
- Strategic Nature Projects (SNAPs): projects aligned with EU nature and biodiversity objectives: There are two phases for the submission of applications, on 19 October 2021 and 7 April 2022.
- Strategic Integrated Projects (SIPs): These are projects to implement, at regional, national or international level, environmental and climate strategies or action plans developed by Member State authorities:
- Environment SIPs: two phases, on 19 October 2021 and 7 April 2022.
- Climate Action SIPs: two phases, on 19 October 2021 and 7 April 2022.
- Technical Assistance (TA) projects: promote capacity building for participation in projects (any modality detailed above) or preparation for access to other EU instruments funded by the Life Programme. The closing date for applications is 22 September 2021.
